1. Chit- Chat: Have a friendly Chit-Chat / Free talk with your student(s) during the first 15 minutes or so of every class. Here is where you get to know each other a bit. Teacher-Student bonding is a good thing if done correctly. Do remember to maintain control of the conversation and not go off target, which tends to happen with the more advanced and especially talkative students. Chit-chat also gives the late comers time to arrive without losing out on the essence of the class.
2. Checkhomework + Review: This will help students get answers to their questions and get a bit more talking time. Have students participate to the max. Bear in mind that some students may get upset if you gave them homework and did not check it. Again remember to keep track of the time.
3. State Main Objective(s) & Warm up: Clearly establish the day’s objective(s) by writing it on the board and do your best to fulfil it. Remember to tick them off as soon as you’ve fulfilled them.
Do a warm up exercise that will help students to prepare to participate. Make sure that your warm up relates to your main goal, otherwise students may feel confused, or that the class was not well planned. Your warm up is like the introduction to an essay or a book that foretells what is to come.
